A Poncho for DD
I made this poncho for my 3 1/2 year old DD. It's warm and soft, and she loves to wear it and dress up her stuffed animals in a mini poncho I made as well.
This is my original design. I knitted squares and crocheted around the edges, then sewed them together. I'm no good at granny squares and I didn't want the project to have lots of holes in it.
* Each finished square - approx 5.25 inches
* Total of 16 squares, 8 of each colour, plus border colour
* Finished project - 23 inches wide at widest point, 16 inches long at longest point, 12 inches wide at shoulder
*Gauge: 12 stitches, 24 rows of garter stitch using 6 mm needles - 4.5 inch square
*With border of double crochet using K hook, 5.25 inches
* I used Lion Brand Homespun in Cobalt and Lavender Sachet for the squares and Fawn for the borders
Instructions:
Each Square - Using 6 mm needles, cast on 12 stitches, knit in garter stitch for 24 rows, cast off. Changing to border colour, double crochet around square, ensuring 11 dc per side, and dc 3 times in each corner to turn corners. Weave in yarn tails with large embroidery needle. Make 16 squares total.
Arrange squares in pattern desired and sew together with border yarn using ladder stitch. Single crochet around neck and outside border using border yarn. Finish off.
This would be extremely easy to modify for different sizes or styles. Use your imagination! Send me a photo if you make one!
